Hertfordshire University Sports Village Phase 1
Project Value: £122,000.00+
Client: Pinnacle FM – University of Hertfordshire Sports Halls, Swimming Pool & Cricket Halls
Services: LED Lighting Upgrade, DALI Lighting Control System, Commercial Electrical Installation, Energy Efficient Lighting, Live Environment Working.
Baldwin & Bleakley Electrical Services were appointed by Pinnacle FM to deliver Phase 1 of a major lighting refurbishment across the University of Hertfordshire Sports Village. The project included complete LED lighting upgrades to the Sports Hall, Cricket Hall and Swimming Pool, together with the installation and commissioning of a fully programmable BEG DALI lighting control system.
Delivering Under Pressure
The Sports Hall and Cricket Hall were completed within an extremely tight program during the University's shutdown period. Working closely with the client, our team completed the installation ahead of program, allowing the facilities to reopen earlier than anticipated and enabling the University to recommence commercial bookings sooner than planned.
Due to the specialist sprung sports flooring, conventional scissor lifts could not be used. Instead, all high-level installation works were carried out using aluminum tower access equipment, carefully planned to protect the flooring while maintaining a safe and efficient working environment.
Intelligent Sports Lighting
A new BEG DALI lighting control system was designed and commissioned to replace the obsolete KNX controls. Using programmable scene plates located at reception, staff can instantly select lighting levels appropriate for different sporting activities.
Examples include:
Training Mode
Badminton – 500 lux
Basketball
Volleyball
Cricket Training
Televised Netball – 1,100 lux
Cleaning & Maintenance
Full Competition Mode
Rather than operating every fitting at full output throughout the day, lighting levels are matched to the activity taking place. This delivers substantial energy savings while ensuring the facilities always meet the required lighting standards for both recreational and competition use.
The completed installation has transformed the University's indoor sports facilities with intelligent, energy-efficient lighting that delivers outstanding performance while reducing operating costs. By completing the works ahead of program and commissioning a bespoke DALI control system, Baldwin & Bleakley provided a solution that improved both the user experience and the commercial operation of the Sports Village.
